Auspicious Occasion

Here I am on this auspicious occasion. So many things to celebrate. Woo. First off, I haven’t smoked in over 30 days now. Isn’t that something? Well, yes. It is.

Second of all, today is me and mjp‘s 17th partnership anniversary. That seems long, doesn’t it? Sheesh. Maybe it is. Doesn’t seem like it because I am still in love with him.

Okay, what else? I know there is more. Ah yes. Last night I wrapped up the 2nd draft of my memoir. So far, each of these writing milestones have been taking me roughly six weeks. I can’t really believe that, but it’s true. Of course, I’ve also been working on it like some kind of maniacal laser-eyed freak show.

So, now what? Now I take a fucking break. From writing that is. My visual art awaits. I’ve been using this side of my brain for a while now and now it’s time to go back to the other side. I’ll need a fresh perspective when I come back for the third, and possibly the final draft, which will not be a six week process at all. It will be a really long process because I plan on taking each chapter to its absolute best.

In other news, I will be doing a one month artist’s stay at the Joshua Tree Highlands Residency in September. I originally applied for the big JTHR Residency that lasts seven weeks and comes with an award, but I didn’t quite get that one. However, they still offered me a one month stay at their Rieman Studio space. I am still very honored with that.

I don’t have any other news than that. Did you want more? I’ll be getting back in the studio this coming week, and that is a big deal, especially because I won’t be taking any smoke breaks. So here it goes.

Bye for now.

Oh, you can also see some of my small pieces right now at Craig Krull Gallery. They’re displayed behind the desk during the current show.

Great news about the smoking and getting back to the visual arts. I’ve started a new class today at Temple Beth Israel on the meaning of the Hebrew words in the Saturday morning liturgy. It’s at the early hour of 9 – 9:55 AM most Saturdays for the next few months. Next session is June 11 and then June 18. No session on June 25. It will be a group where a core of people will come each time with another group dropping in and out. It’s $30 bucks for a really good ad ed textbook. Ending at 10 allows folks who want to stay for some or all of the Saturday morning service. MIchele and I did a weekend at the end of Passover in Joshua Tree with the Nefesh group at Wilshire Boulevard Temple, led by Rabbi Susan Goldberg.

Take care and keep away from those ciggies!

Hey Mark. I’m about to write you an email about that class. Thanks for all your support about the (quitting) smoking. It’s been so hard, but I’m still taking it day by day. I’ve already gained a ton of weight however. 🙁
