My Identity Lab

If you saw a sign on a door that read, "Identity Lab," would you expect to find a place of creation
or dissection?
My Identity Lab simulates a scientific laboratory filled with the artist’s unique renderings on paper and small, sculptural specimens used to dissect, deconstruct, and regenerate her present-day identity. Using garment patterns, fabric, and dressmaking elements, she expresses a pathogenic examination of her having grown up in the garment manufacturing industry.
Reclaiming the tools of her family trade was initially a subconscious or perhaps genetic reaction to dark childhood memories, but after close examination the media seamlessly melded with the artist’s conscious representations of invented biology. Sculptural forms have evolved and technical drawings of hand tools have suddenly grown fur and sprouted hair follicles, becoming living hybrids, while collar shapes have morphed into cellular, organic forms. Under a proverbial microscope, studying the mysteries of these experimental creations, the artist’s identity unfolds upon the same papers that were once used in making master patterns.
