About This Artwork: This was the beginning of a large series of planks I had an idea to do. Truthfully, this idea came about from a long plank of redwood I painted one day in 2007, after I moved into a new rental with my boyfriend, MJP. I had just purchased a brand new, flat screen TV and I wanted something decorative to hang above it. I did not want to make or hang a piece of "real" art there, so I found a piece of redwood and just started "decorating" it with oil paint, while distressing it with a bit of awl scratching and a drill. It came out pretty cool with all the colors I wanted, etc., but I have never considered it a work of "art."

One day, MJP and I were lying on the couch without the TV on and talking about how this plank was a cool format. It was he who had an idea to draw on lighter wood with only pencil. I had planned to make an entire series of planks that were done in only pencil and one "spot" color. So far, this was the only one that was completed after months of prepping various planks. As of now, the end of 2012, I suppose I have abandoned this idea - for a while anyway.
