Despite the Fog

I’m moving along on my new Artist’s Book, Outlander, despite the fact that I’ve been experiencing more depression than usual.

During times like these, I must keep busy. If not, I’d sleep all day which just leads me into a darker hole.

No doubt, I still sleep a lot, but not as much as I’d like to. I’m now on new meds that give me an energy jolt. It’s been helpful over the last couple of days.

As for the book, I’ve organized my list of things to do. Instead of everything looking like an overwhelming mountain of endless endeavors, it’s all become doable in bite-sized tasks. I’ve managed to finish parts, and that’s how I’m looking at it–in parts.

I completed the little first aid kits. I painted the tops of the tins in enamel and filled them with some supplies.

And I’m almost done with the bow drill kits. In fact, they should be done by the end of today. I only have to do details on the last two.

The cigar boxes arrived yesterday, but the measurements were off by a lot. The depth is okay, though (thank goodness). However, I trusted the eBay seller on the size, and unfortunately, I printed the preliminary template for the big fold-out map. Phooey!

Since the measurements were so off, the books are now formatted at (roughly) 4.5 X 8 inches with 1.5 inches for the feet below.

What else is done? The lino blocks are carved, but not yet print-tested, but they are pretty simple.

Two of the three planned photographs are set. The other day, it rained a lot, which made for a perfect scenario to stage my muddy hiking boots in a desert scene. I like how it turned out.

There’s still so much more to do. Lots of drawing and painting. Lot’s of printing. And a lot of handwriting. Yeesh. What did I commit myself to?
