People Get Ready: SATURDAY IS NEAR!

Yesterday, after spending Monday and Tuesday prepping, wrapping, and packing up my work into two cars, Michael and I drove through the the famous Los Angeles traffic into Santa Monica: the extreme East Side to the West, 14 paintings on canvas in my car, and 15 framed drawings in his.

I didn’t do much there, other than drop everything off. There were four additional pieces that were already there at the Gallery slated for the show. That makes 18 canvas pieces. The rest of the work is now handed over to Craig and Director Beth Parker. They decide what to keep and what to edit, and where it will all go. I trust them explicitly. They wanted some opinions and I gave them, but I mostly want them run with it. And as far as I’m considered (with that leg of the race), my job is over.

There are 10 framed Journal Project pieces, and I believe most of them are new. I’ve never framed them individually before. That’s something that’s different–Craig’s idea. I think it’s smart too. I’ve never thought much of them as individual pieces. I always felt like they needed each other to make sense, but maybe they are okay just the way they are. Special, like you and me. 😉

I’m still nervous because not all the things on my To-Do list are done. I knew somewhere deep within me, I’d get them all done, but I didn’t think I’d be squeaking by this close. Plus a couple of our best friends are coming down from Northern California for the show, which means we have to clean the house. At least slightly. Scrape off one layer of scum, or something? I don’t know when we’ll be able to fit that in, but they’re worth it. Other than that, I still don’t know what I’ll be reading out of Shrapnel in the San Fernando Valley. I’ll have to practice it too because I’ve always been horrible at reading out loud. It was a huge source of anxiety for me when I was a kid. I would do anything to get out of it in school. I’d go so far as to be excused to use the bathroom, then just walk out of school for the rest of the day.

I mentioned to Craig that I would need chairs for when I did my book signing and reading–for me and even others that have invisible disabilities. How many people do you know that can hardly deal with standing on a cement floor for hours at an art show–even people without a disability? Am I right? Well, he must have taken me pretty seriously because minutes later he went out and purchased a bunch of chairs. He also bought a PA system too! Now I’m going to be talking on a mic! Well, no, that doesn’t instill anymore panic in me. No, not me.

Maybe I’ve mentioned this before, but I have a PR company handling a bunch of my Tweets, Facebook posts, Instagram shout-outs, etc. to promote the book, which is making life so much easier on me. But just so you know, that’s not me. They are also getting me features, spotlights, interviews, and reviews on various book blogs. I created a tour schedule here if you want to see where I’ve been and where I’m going to be in cyberspace. I have a short break between the end of April and the beginning of May.

So the sale for my limited edition books are only on super sale for TWO MORE DAYS! They will be going back to $299 at the show. Make a note, babies.

Okay, here’s a sneak peak at one of the new paintings, but you have to come in person to see it in real life. Promise?

Ft. Anything, 2019. Oil, paper, and thread stitched on canvas, 24 x 30 inches.

I hope to see you Saturday at 4:00 P.M.

…And don’t forget to order your copy of Shrapnel in the San Fernando Valley. If you like it, please leave a review on Amazon! Thank you!
