GUILTY!

I can hardly believe it! Yesterday, Danny Masterson was found guilty of two counts of forcible rape and taken into custody. The jury was torn on the charges pertaining to count three (8 to 4—in favor of a conviction), but it only took two out of three to apprehend him. He is facing 30 years to life.

In the case of count three, we’re talking about his ex-girlfriend (Jane Doe #3), who is now married with children, all of which have been harassed for years by both Danny Masterson and the Church of Scientology. It is very sad that she didn’t get justice and that he has essentially, yet again, gotten away with his disgusting crimes. Had he been convicted of that third charge, he would be looking at 45 years to life, and Jane Doe #3 may be feeling a sigh of relief.

However, a civil trial is coming. All three Jane Does are the plaintiffs against both the Mastersons and the cult, and I believe that includes the leader, David Miscavage. I can’t imagine Miscavage actually showing up in court, though. He somehow avoids such things. Like Masterson, he believes he’s above the law and sends in his expensive attorneys. The cult has several, and they have very rarely lost a case in court.

But one of my dear friends won against the Church of Scientology and Miscavage. In fact, he won millions of dollars after more than a ten-year court battle. So, it is possible. It gives me hope for the Jane Does.

The Masterson trial has been closely covered by Tony Ortega of the Underground Bunker. Since no cameras were allowed in Judge Olmedo’s courtroom, he was giving blow-by-blow reports of what was happening each day, hour by hour. It was like being inside the courtroom. He did such a fantastic job. He’d been covering this case since the very beginning when it broke many years ago. I (and many others) am eternally grateful to Tony for covering this so closely. It’s helped all of us support these women. It helped inspire me to report my own rape, too.

Today, Danny wakes up in jail. The sentencing date has not yet been set, but the next hearing date is set for August 4th.

And next week (June 7th), there is also an evidentiary hearing regarding how the Church of Scientology got its hands on some of the trial evidence in this case that just ended. Somehow, it mysteriously wound up in their attorney’s possession. (WTF? Right?) Next week, they will get to the bottom of that, hopefully, and hopefully, it will aid in the upcoming civil case against them.

30 years isn’t enough. Nice news photo. 😉
