WED | FEBRUARY 18: Family dysfunction and Jewish heritage culminate in paper collage, garment patterns, sewing pins, thread and text in artist Carol Es' work, which has already been featured at the Getty Museum and Brooklyn Museum. Es will join Bonita Helmer, a highly cerebral abstract painter - whose large, striking canvases depict vast metaphysical landscapes that deal with such subjects as physics, Kabbalah and the universe - at a new, not-to-be-missed exhibition. The opening will include a special dessert reception and Es' show, "Inner Outline," along with Helmer's, "Without Beginning, Without End." The photographic diary, "Save a Child's Heart," chronicling the work done by Israeli surgeons for children from developing countries in need of heart surgery, will also be on display. Wed. 7-9 p.m. Free. Dortort Center for Creativity in the Arts at UCLA Hillel, 574 Hilgard Ave., Los Angeles. (310) 208-3081. www.uclahillel.org.
