Carol Es Alchemizes Childhood
"My Identity Lab" by artist Carol Es simulates a science lab, with works on paper, sculpture, and other media. The exhibit offers a glimpse into her past as she attempts to reclaim a piece of her childhood: when most kids her age were in Junior High, Es was a pattern cutter in the apparel industry. In her teens she began to establish herself as a musician, artist and writer, distributing her own chapbooks and hand-made zines, while building her reputation as a musician through touring, writing and recording. Es uses life experience as fuel, transforming a broken past into transcendence.
